Ben and Maria Wetenhall travelled to Ann Arbor, Michigan in November for a three week residential communication program. The program at the University of Michigan is the leader in working with people who have aphasia. They lived in a residence hall and participated in classes, meetings, computer work...all designed to help Ben increase his communication capabilities. It was a very positive experience for both Ben and Maria. As people who know him would expect, Ben worked very hard and achieved excellent improvement. He very much appreciated the skilled poeple who worked with him.

The trip was made easier by daughter, Marsha, who flew to Detroit with them and got them settled in the program. Son Paul and his family visited for a weekend which helped breake up the time away from family and friends (and provided a break from institutional food!). The other program participants came from places as far away as Iowa and New York City. Meeting others who are working to overcome their aphasia was inspitational.
