| Sarah Wetenhall is the oldest child of Paul Wetenhall and Kathy Pearce. She had a great start to her high school career and is a rising sophomore. Sarah did well in all her courses and was active in extracurricular activities as well. She enjoyed advanced Spanish, and is teaching herself more Spanish vocabulary from a language website she found. Plus, she is an avid watcher of the Spanish channel to practice her listening and pronunciation. She also took Course IIES math, Biology, English, and Social Studies. She was in Concert Band, Symphonic Orchestra, and the Jazz Band. In the sports arena, Sarah was on JV tennis and moves up to Varsity this year. She continued as the goalie for JV lacrosse, also playing in tournaments around the state. One annual tournament, a favorite of hers, takes place in Ithaca, NY during the fall. Sarah has had a very busy summer. Not only has she been practicing her Spanish, but she went to Indiana University for a Journalism program for high school feature writers. Sarah was a feature writer for her school newspaper and had 6 articles published. At Indiana, she won an award for outstanding writing. From Indianapolis, she flew to Washington, DC, where she participated in American Universitys National Student Leadership Conference in Business and Technology. She worked with her team on a marketing strategy and presented it to the group. Her team won second prize, in spite of the projector failing so their PowerPoint slides could not be shown. Sarah is also working on her Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouts. She is having fun working on badges and leadership and service projects. Sarah has been busy helping her church. She is a leader on her churchs web design team, designed a flyer for vacation Bible school, played a trumpet duet for church, and helped on the picture directory and new logo team. Sarah is reading a lot this summer. She recently completed The Death and Life of Great American Cities and is moving onto Home From Nowhere. She is also reading Karim Rashid:I Want to Change the World and Katherine Grahams biography. John had an outstanding year at school, excelling in all his courses, including his double accelerated math. He also scored well enough on his SAT test to get into college. Next year, he will be in eighth grade. John took Algebra I, social studies (American history), English, French, and Physical Science. In home and careers, he sewed a bag and cooked delicious treats. He is enjoying band, now that he is getting better French horn parts. He competed in NYSSMA and got a very high score for his French horn solo. John has become a super skier and had fun at Saturday ski club. At Mont Tremblant, he was a wild skier with his instructor Sean. John also was on the cross country team and has been training all summer so he will be in good shape for the fall season. John has also been working on his tennis game and has had fun in the family doubles matches. John was on the lacrosse team and went to two lacrosse camps this summer. John has been busy with a Johns Hopkins on line writing course. He has until midnight to get his assignments, so it is just like college. In his spare time, he has been learning Spanish from his sister. John also is an avid reader. John is also working on Life for Boy Scouts. He completed Personal Management and is working on two Citizenship badges. John has a new Xbox and spends much quality time playing Diablo with his friends. John has taken full advantage of the summer seeing movies and going to lunch with his friends. Both Sarah and John had a great time in England this April. |
